View Full Version : I Finally Quit Tobacco

Well, In the past 13 or so years I can only remember two times where I was without tobacco. One was during Basic Training, the other was when we ran out of supplies during the war(That can be pretty scary). Well I am in my Third day of freedom from tobacco(Voluntary), and I have to say, mornings really suck. But the Energy difference after the morning urge and the patch kicks in is really a noticable. Oh Yeah I am cheating, I am on the patch, I tried it without and I will tell you chewing tobacco really gets ahold of you, so I caved in and bought a package. Good choice for me otherwise I would probably have a dip in right now.
Just wanted to tell everyone, they say that is a good thing. Tell everyone that you know, because it adds a little pressure to keep it up.
Couple of good notes I dod not expect, A decreased appetite and I am sleeping 100% better. I do not know why and I don't care.

Stick with it! Everyday gets easier. I never dipped, but I quit smoking and after a week the cravings were gone. I quit cold turkey but do whatever works for you. Patch, gum, whatever. Don't give in and if you feel the urge to go buy a pack of chew, call a friend to intercept you :)

congratulations, Be strong and you will make it. I have never smoked or chewed, but my Dad and brother both quit cold turkey. My Dad carried around a bag of starlight mints to have for when the craving hit. Good luck.

So far so good. I noticed when I get the strongest urges come when I am watching the fights on Monday. I tried drinking a JW's Honey Brown the other day, that was a mistake. The Urge hit me so hard I had to take a walk. But I have noticed that the urges are getting weaker as the days go by. In the Mornings I wait to put on a patch until I get a craving really bad, then I just fight it until the patch kicks in. Believe it or not it is taking longer for that urge to hit in the morning already. Then again a can of chew lasted me about 7 to 9 days. So I wasn't really a heavy chewer like some others I know.
I might try stepping down the dosage next week, or maybe I will just stick with the program. Like medicine take it until it is gone.
Anyway, I can't say it enough, Thank all of you for your support, shows what kind of group we belong to.

Dont give in to the urges. Its been a month today since I smoked a cigarette. Every day it gets a little easier. My work was going to charge me an extra 500 bucks a year for insurance for smoking. Next year they are not going to let anyone smoke on site. They offered a plan called free & clear and they sent me 18 weeks of patches for free.

Congrats on quitting smoking. I do want to quit but to be honest with you the thought of doing so frightens me. I smoke a pack and a half a day and I keep thinking that getting the Rockkrawler long arm kit seems more in reach with all of the money I would save.
On a side note...to Jeep 108..I have a philisophical problem with companies charging you more for insurance or even firing people in some cases for smoking. I am not saying that because I am a smoker...I am saying that because what you do on the outside of work is not any companies business unless it is illegal. Last time I checked, smoking is not illegal...although I wish they were banned.

Way to go! Stick with the program. You'll be smoke free in no time. Think of all the extra $$$$ for the Jeep fund :)

Keep it up. I am sure it is hard but you can do it.
I chewed for 15 years and finally quit in 2000... I still have dreams where I'm chewin'... It's weird... I can still wake up in the morning and I push my tough to my lip to feel if I had a chew...
Believe me, the urge will go away. The dreams will continue!
Good Luck!

Don't give up. I smoked for more then 30 years at right around 2 packs a day and it's been over 12 years since I smoked a cigarette.
With me the first week was hard and then it got pretty easy after that, well until about week 6 I could have killed for a smoke, but I said "I'm not giving up after this long" and besides I'm way too cheep pay for them anymore.
Heck smoking is one of the most addictive drug habits there is, I still get urges to this day, (just writing this triggers the need  ), one of the worse times is when there is an anti-smoking commercial on TV  , makes me want one all the more.
