A few of us ran Martinez Canyon today. This was my first time running this trail and it was awesome! Breathtaking scenery and a few challenges put this trail on my favorites list.
It was great meeting some new people and running with some of the old crew. It turned out to be a great day!
We started with 13 Jeeps and 1 Taco. At the beggining of the loop one of jeephreak's friends broke a brake line and had to limp back home with his buddy. Rachel sprung a spring and Nick broke a front axle u-joint right under the mill.
Other than the few unfortunate incidents it went very well for the amount of jeeps that showed up.
Here's some Pics.. Stay tuned more to come!

This was my first real run with my lift on and with the group. Had a great time and it was nice to meet some new people. Sorry I didn't get to continue with everyone. I followed Dave home with his busted brake line. He made it home safely. Thanks for a good run with a great group.

Yeah I made it home all right. It was a pain in the rear to drive home with only one front brake, it pulled pretty bad to the right. There were a couple white knuckle moments on the freeway, but made it safely. Now, I have to
drive all the way back out there for I can get on that trail. Dave send the pick of the ghetto brake job if you got one. Dan thanks for the help and tools(especially the vise grips that are still attached to the jeep). I will get them back to you next time I see you. I took a couple pics, but unfortunately I wasn't out there too long.

I had a great time. This trail was a blast and had some of the best scenery I've seen yet. Thanks to Mike for setting it up and everyone else that helped out. We had a few trail repairs, but everyone made it back in one piece. It was good to see some familiar faces again and to meet some new people. Click on the link below for a few of my meager photos (I ended up in the back so I didn't get a lot of good photos).

Hey
Had a great time yesterday! What a great group of people. It's really nice to wheel with people you see on the board to put a face to the name.
Just glad it didn't rain on us, although it would have helped the dust factor for the ride out   *Coughing. :D
Lets get a group to do woodpecker or axle alley. Want to see the rest of that area.

There's a couple of boulder gardens past the mine to negotiate through, but
there are options you can take to make it as hard or as easy as you want.

Gettin. I'll take that as a compliment. LOL
I swore I'd never do the switch back again after last time because it was just to close for comfort. Some of those washed out areas on the road up, left no room for error at all. Cliff side tire was literally on the edge. I was just wondering if it was the same or worse.
jeephreak
01-16-2006, 01:05 PM
I didnt think the switch backs were that bad at all. I am normally not real comfortable on them (fear of heights and more to the point falling down from them) but I never really worried about it on this run.
The luge (sp?) was a mess, I wanted to run it, but everyone else on the trip kept me from doing so, so I am heading up there this weekend to finish it up!!! :p ;) :p

Definately, but a lot of bypasses. The bypass for the "Luge" will get your attention! The "luge" itself is GONE!

The luge or the bypass? The luge itself hasn't been used in years. The bypass is fun itself, but I've been avoiding returning until I'm sure I've got my 'popping out of 4-lo' issue resolved. That's the last hill I want to be on with an iffy xfer case

the bypass wasnt that bad, It looked alot worse than it turned out to be.
I was just kidding about the luge - the 12 foot deep washout kept me from making a run at it! When I get my new gears and 40 inch tires, Im all over it! :D

I forgot to mention that we came across a broke down Hummer on the way out of the loop. The driver and three females would have been stranded out there if it wasn't for us showing up. well since I didn't strap them out of anywhere, I considered making them sign the seat, but then realized that would decline the value of my heep.....so I just figured it was payment enough to show them what a "real" jeep rides like, instead of the that "thing" they were riding in:rolleyes:

This was a great ride, with a great group. Running just 33's, an open front diff and an LSD rear, this was a nicely challenging trail. I got new scrapes on just about everything underneath, which was cool. There's something satisfying about coming down hard on your armor.
Thanks again for allowing me to tag along.

I'd take that trailer in a heartbeat! And I have a hitch in my bumper.
The funniest story of the day for me was my choice of where to fall in to formation. I figure it's a safe bet to follow the only female driver, giving me a safe line to follow (not knowing anybody on this trip). That's one stereotype I'll never succomb to again. Rachel was the craziest of the bunch. I'm always impressed to see a Jeep with all five tires touching mother earth. And she can drive.
I learned a bunch, and really enjoyed the great spotting.

For all of you guys, I changed my avatar for ya, kind of hard to see the strap though!
I like it! :D

Man, stop with the compliments you will give her a big(ger) ego. Just kidding, she is a pretty good driver. She said thanks for the compliment and she looks forward to wheeling with you all again. (P.S. Did you notice how much I was not in the vehicle? It is for a reason...)

:D Jeez, I'd rather light my pos on fire then strap it to a (soft) Taco like Bob's!!!
well, I guess it could be OK because he would only be strapping me out of a section that he had no choice but to bypass anyway. :-)

She keeps kicking you out for your poor spotting and driving advise?
When she takes the right but less than obvious line you get askeered?
Can't think of any other plausible reasons...
