As many of you know, we at DesertFab lost our lease on the shop we've called home for over 6 years. But there's a silver lining... We found a new place, literally brand new, only a few miles away. Our new home has more space, fenced and barbed-wire parking lot, better layout and POTENTIAL!!

We're calling on you guys, our past, current and (hopefully) future customers to help us out in making the new shop our home.
We've decided to call it the Done or Dead Moving Party, as we're going to move the enitre shop in one day, or die trying!

OK, folks, I know the title says party, but we need you to work! We really need you to be willing to put your back into it and load stuff, unload stuff, move it around 15 times, lose it, find it... then get frustrated and throw it in the corner (That's my job, you can't do that -Todd).

We'll supply the drinks (no alchie while working/driving) and burgers and dogs goin on two grills (brought to you by Todd's Wife, Brandi, and her dad).

We've also got a flatbed tractor-trailer with piggyback forklift for the really big stuff (lift, lathe, break, etc.). But we could use some boxes and pallets to make life easier for everyone.

We just might be making a beer run at the end of the day, provided that they're still selling when we finish ;)

Now on to the details...
Date:
Saturday, Jan 21, 2006
Time:
9AM til Done or Dead (see the theme here?)
Place:
Old Shop -
564 N. Idaho Rd. #4
Apache Junction, AZ
Just North of Apache Trail on Idaho, across from Police station

New Shop -
4961 S Pinal Rd
Apache Junction, AZ
South of US 60 and Baseline off of Ironwood
Just past canal that is south of Baseline, turn West and then turn South just before Dead End sign. Aprox. 300' on left

What to bring:
Water if you need extra (we'll have some on hand)
Gloves
grubby clothes
shop broom (if you have one)
Truck with empty bed and/or trailer (not required, we won't turn you away for wanting to help!)
Pallets or boxes it you have any
Condiment for burger or hot dog if Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles, Cheese, Onions and Lettuce aren't good enough :p
Strong Back
Willingness to get 'r done and have fun
Wishes to kick Glenn because his broke back will limit activity to being the water boy for the most part

If all goes as planned, we'll have a special gift for those that help out!

We'll be at the new shop a good bit this next week getting things measured out and preparing electrical connections.

Thanks in advance and see you next Saturday!
Call the shop with any questions.

PM or email me to sign up and what equipment/supplies you might be bringing.

Once we're all moved and settled in, be looking for the Grand Reopening of DesertFab in their new home (probably sometime in February... could be later as slow as shop-related stuff gets done due to customer satisfaction being first priority!)

I'll do my best to make it at least part of the day. I sent a PM to Joe asking he make this thread a sticky until next weekend. Might help generate more responses.

What is a sticky?

First of all, "If all goes as planned, we'll have a special gift for those that help out" is not needed, the water/pop/alchie/food will suffice. We are a group that helps each other out because we all care. You guys were shafted with your current place, and we will all help to get you to the new place.

Second, I will be there!!!

Still need trailer to help? Or will the semi be enough? I think there are about 4 pallets at work I can borrow.

I've got two pallets at the House I'll donate no problem.... I'll also be there after I get off my 10 hr shift at work on Sat morning..

What is a sticky?

Sticky just means the thread will remain at the top of the list where folks will see it, as opposed to moving down the list as new threads are posted.

The more trailers or Pickups the better, the semi truck will be great for the heavy stuff. I will be moving some things this weekend also.

Todd...

I know I left ya hangin' once... but I won't do it again!

Count me in on Saturday. I should be able to bring my 2 roommates along as well... We'll have either one or 2 long bed trucks and possibly 1 or 2 flatbed trailers...

As a last resort I will be there with my truck!

Look forward to helpin' out!

As was said earlier, any help or carrying device is welcome... and greatly appreciated!

I was freaking out, though... I thought the thread had been removed when I opened the forum, as I typically only look at stickies every so often. LOL

Either or, awesome of you folks for offering to step up and help out. I've got one pallet and a few boxes that I'll be taking over later today.

A lot of the stuff in the shop is rather dirty thanks to years of trying to get things done fast, without cleaning up after ourselves too much (that's gonna change in te new shop or floggings will occur). For that reason, please make sure you're in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and possibly greasy.

If anyone has an old sink laying around, we could use that... we have to replace the one in the current shop as it gave up the ghost and the drain separated from the porcelain... a mop bucket is being used to catch the water now as Todd ain't no plumber and just disconnected all the drain pipes LOL
We have all the hardware, just need a POS old sink :)

See you all next Saturday!

I was scheduled to lead a cleanup next saturday. But I'm going to ask that someone else take it, or we reschedule it for another week. Maybe we can get those planning to do the cleanup to switch to help you guys out. My back is also shot but I can work around it some. I'll bring the truck and the trailer And case of water.

Major Kudo's to everyone who showed up to help Todd move his shop. There were at least 2 dozen of us and we made quick work of the smaller things using folks trucks/trailers. The large truck and forklift showed up later in the day to move the heavy equipment, lift, etc. Also a big thanks to the folks who cooked/served the burgers and dogs for lunch. Everyone had worked up an appetite and the food went quick :)

Todd's new shop is much nicer and larger than the old place. My CJ is looking forward to spending some time there soon :)

Sorry I wasn't able to make it over after committing earlier in the thread. I've sent a private email to Todd explaining why.

Glad to hear that there was a lot of support and the job got done. Looking forward to that Grand Re-Opening party! Will the Hooters girls come back? ;-)
