Very adventure filled trip. Thank you to all who wheeled with us and helped us fix our junk.
Carnage Total:
1- Snapped u-joint and strap
1- Twisted rear driveshaft
1- Broken steering box
1- Rollover (resulting in broken windo/frame and left fender and 1 broken foot...ouch!)
Tony crushed his foot very badly on the rollover. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember to NEVER try to stop a 3,500lbs Jeep from rolling over by sticking your leg out.

A very good time with some unfortunate events. Very glad that the worst of it was only a broken foot. My winch got a nice workout with pulling the gold XJ off of a tree stump and then rolling the CJ back over. No more trash-talking from the CJ's about small hills or broken drivelines. The TJ (mine), was there to save the day...sort of! :D

Ouch. I hope it's not too bad and he heals up quickly.
Natural reaction when starting to fall over is to catch oneself. Anyone's whose ever rolled their junk understands. It's easy to preach but it takes self control to keep your extremities inside and trust your cage when you know you're going over.

It actually may be worse than thought. He has crushed all the bones in his foot and they are having a hard time controlling the swelling. He may loose his toes.

All this --- at the Rolls? Those trails must be in really bad shape.
I hope Tony makes a speedy recovery.

OK...I'm looking at the pics and wondering how the guy ended up in the tub of the Jeep? Was he wearing a seatbelt? I hope he's ok and his foot can be repaired. Looks scarey.

Well I went and visited Tony today at Banner Health (Power and Broadway in Room 532 if your interested) and he seems to be doing better. They are going to MRI his foot later on today to see what they can do. X-Ray shows he 'powdered' all the 5 bones in his foot. They have stopped the swelling so things are starting to look better.
I drove his Jeep home since it was left at the hospital overnight. Took it reaaaaal slow as it's not in the greatest of driving conditions right now.
-The cage is bent.
-The windshield and windshield frame is toast.
-The drag link is twisted and the tie rod is severly bent.
-The steering box has come loose from the frame (weld broke and some bolts missing).
-The left front fender is crumpled.
A little eblow grease and a few $$ and it will get it back on trail in no time.

Thanks for all the inquiries and prayers.
I'm going to be fine, it will take awile to heal this one however, As Rich stated, always keep your limbs inside the vehicle at all costs, I'm not sure how or why, invulntary reaction I guess. As the ground came up my foot reached out.
I was belted, I had already poped my belt and started working my way out as that picture was taken, as to how the jeep tipped, I came up a steap incline and cut the wheel to the right, there was another hole right below that my drivers side wheels went into and the crest of the hill i came up on right, was just enough the vehicle tipped.
I'll be adding some safety features in the near future, nets and reinforce the current rollcage. :D

Well if it makes you feel better I had my foot out at one time too. Many people that see this video just donot understand.

I had enough time to realize I was going over and saved my leg. I have since rolled and was aware the second time and kept everything inside. Good luck with recovery and hope its a fast one.

zman,
That was a rough roll. When the rig started bouncing prior to the roll...is that an example of springs unloading and or axle hop and the cause? Probably a silly question....but I like to understand the physics and mechanics of things that go bang and crunch.
thx, Ken

I believe it is poor antisquat in the SOA suspention and the low tire pressure that caused the bounce. I was and still am running a traction bar to prevent axel wrap.

wHOA... My heart just jumped out of my chest seeing that, that is exactly the same thing i did. How ironic. I hope everybody that has open door jeep tatoos this in thier brain. And that if or when you tip it wont matter, it is an involuntary reaction. As it was for me. I'm definatly ading netting as soon as i am able to jeep again. hehe
I go in for surgery thursday the 19th, they are going to fix an impacted toe bone that has imbedded itself into one of the upper joints near the ankle, other than this issue my foot is going to be ok. Nothing is dislocated and everything else will heal good.
