We've had a bit of interest in running Log Corral, and it's apparently a bit overgrown. I believe the wording was it's like driving in the rain forest. So Were planning a Cleanup / Run out there to get it back in shape. It should be easy to cleanup. Basicly will involve cutting allot of thin loose overgrowth, and a few branches here and there. The more folks we have. The quicker it will get done. This trail is a great trail for several reasons. One there's lots of shade and two the scenery is amazing. This is the type of trail you want to bring your camera on. At the top of the trail you can see Bartlett lake below. There you can either continue on down to the lake and even cross if you can find the entrance to cross. Or you can turn around and do the trail backwards. The top is a great place to have lunch and take in the views. I've e-mailed the mesa 4 wheelrs to include them as well. This trail is supposedly one of there adopt a trails. Which means they are in charge of keeping it clean. I havent heard back from them yet. But I'm not going to base weither we clean it up on if there going to be there or not. But I thought it would be the right thing to do, to include them in the cleanup. Hopefully they can make it as well. So gather up your gloves, axes, tree trimmers, ect. And lets have a big turnout. It sure will make this go allot quicker. Bring plenty of water and pack a lunch, and the camera too. We'll give precise directions as we get closer. But it's basicly north east of the sycamore creek entrance about 5 miles, on the left. Off the beeline highway.

This is a clean up / trail run to trim the overgrowth. Everyone needs to bring something that will remove small branchs from the trail. i.e. saw, hedge trimmers, ax, gloves, ect. This is a really fun trail for the moderate class of wheelin. There are a few tricky spots on this trail to make it fun. Otherwise it's a great sceneic run.

When this type of "clean-up" run is done, what do you do with the trimmings from the bushes, trees, etc.? Does it need to be taken back out with us, or just cut and thrown off to the side?

My plan is to cut and leave. The majority of the branches are thin brush like branches and will become a part of the terrain. The bigger branches we can throw off the trail. If anyone see's a problem with this, please chime in. If we need to haul it out. It will be a big issue. Because it's to far in to attempt to bring a truck and to haul it out would take loading our jeeps. Which won't even make a dent in it.

Remember. This is not a garbage cleanup. If it was. We would then of course need to haul it out.

I can provide a pair of hands. Will check with the boss:rolleyes: . I recently moved here and have no real equipment other than clippers. How tough is the trail? I will have a new unbroken-in lift.:D
Gonna need directions too.

How much lift and what size tires?

Lockers are helpful but not entirely necessary on this trail. The one rocky area is the only part that might be tough, but I've seen others (Joe, Jamie, etc.) drive it open on 33's or 35's.

Folks usually meet at the gravel area at the intersection of 87 (Beeline Hwy) and Saguaro Lake turnoff (Bush Hwy). From there it's a few more miles NW on 87 to the gate.

It will be an LJ with 3.5" re lift with 33" tires. Stock other than that. Limited slip in the rear. Open up front. Enthusiastic novice behind the wheel.

I should be able to get my junk together and not leaking by then. The problem I have is getting in-and-out of the damn thing, all day long.

I am really not an advocate of cutting back brush. To me if people use the trail enough the brush should stay back. If not, it was meant to be closed by nature.

Let's see how this weekend goes. Keep me posted.

James. I think the problem with log corral is that it's closed more than it's open. So it's not as well traveled as most trails. We have done many of these types of cleanups/brush clearings in Oregon and it has helped to keep people on designated trails. And not give them excuses to trail blaze. Hope you can make it out. Bring your son and have him sit on the the hood and trim for ya. :D
