Do I have to worry about it? I drove 30 miles without noticing anything...at 70+ MPH... It's one of Currie's...By slightly, I mean about ½"...:(

Don't really know sorry...but I suggest to bring to the shop and get it re-aligned.

I bent mine inwards where I couldn't turn right because it would hit the steering dampner's mount. A tow strap and a boulder fixed it! It's not exactly like before but just like you I have feelt no difference...

I know where you trade that "bent" tie rod in for a good price on a steering system the "wont" bend on ya:D

Is it the Currie HD setup? What did you do, dive off a cliff with it? I've used mine for a shovel with no bends.:D

Hey Gary, I heard you on the CB ask about it, but didn't know you actually bent it. I guess Ruler just has it in for your Jeep! Any other damage, how about the transmission, any more probs with 1st gear? Looks like you made it home OK. See you later, and don't forget to let me know about the pics! Since "Hound" wasn't there to be my personal photographer, tell Karla thanks for me.:D

Gary--post pics!

The first concern would be integrity--if you compromised the strength significantly, you may be looking at trail breakage in the near future. It doesn't sound like you hit it that hard though. ?

Second, we have a couple of TJ's with sliiiiightly bent tie rods, and what I have noticed is that one of them (after 6 months) is wearing the tires unevenly. Keep a $150 (+/-) tie-rod and wear $700 (+/-) tires?

That isn't the first Currie steering I've seen or read about. Throw an aluminum tierod on there and be done with it. "Jeeppeepin" had an extra one so you might try PMing her to see if she sold it. ;)

Give Currie a call and send a picture. The other guy hit the nail on the head with $150 vs $700 in tires. Issues like this is why I am having a hi steer done.

Opps, should have said other Jeeper. Now that was lazy of me, did't scroll up to check name or gender. Being a retired nurse in a female dominated professon I should know better than to assume.

A bent 'slightly' tie rod is not a big deal. You can and should adjust your 'toe' to get it to handle correctly. Certainly its not something that a DD should have. If it’s a trail buggy straighten as best you can and adjust toe.

If its a Sonic cruiser, then its still ok, just tell the guys at the Friday nite Fart & Lie get together that its the latest thing from Currie [or who ever]. It called a 'Pre-bent Pre=vent'. What they do is pre-bend your tie rod as to prevent it being catastrophically bent out on the trail and damaging other steering components. The tie rod is bent at it weakest point by viewing by CAT scan, then pre-bent and heat treated. It cost a lot of money, but it’s the way the ‘pro’s’ are going in WeWeRoc competition.

You can most likely sell it before the story is over, just be sure to paint it up real purdy. Take the money and get you a good AlumiFlex tie rod and be done with it.

i put a straight edge against it and it is 3/8" off...
I thought these things weren't supposed to bend!:o

It is not a daily driver but I want to be safe...

If I switch to AlumiFlex, do I have to change any components other than the tie rod itself?

Does the Currie use stock tie rod ends? If not, you'll need stock TJ ends, unless you just switch out to TBT steering all the way around.

You need to expand that buttface along the axle. :p

I was just driving down Bell Ave "minding my own business" when the truck in front of me threw a rock and hit the tie rod! ;)
That is the story I'm sticking with! :D

I hate it when a can of black Rustolium can't fix my damage!!

Perhaps the "upside-down bottle jack" method could bend it back!?!

Any suggestions? Heat it up with a hair dryer and bend it with pliers? :D

Remove steering at insert into a 20 ton press. I think the press will win. ;)

Let this other guy speak...:D

Gary, first, are you a guy or a gal? (One can't be too sure these days...)

J/K :D

Seriously, back to tie rods...

By the looks of it, if it was on a commercial Jeep or a DD, I would replace it ASAP. A tie rod is not something you want to weaken and snap at 60 mph. Plus the tire wear issue...

If it was a trailer queen, I would carry a spare for now, and change it when I got around to it.

Happy trails,

SedonaCowGIRL :D

Gary, I bent my Currie on Ruler last year and it hasn't caused any problems. I just had to adjust the toe a bit. I looked at your on New Years Eve and it is bent about the same as mine. It shouldn't be to much of an issue if you can get it aligned decently.
