I have used Dick's Driveshaft since I got my TJ in '99 and they have always been reasonable, until now. I called them to make a CV shaft for me, I told them I have been a customer of theirs for a long time. The guy on the phone quoted me $600-$700 for my shaft.

Knowing what I have paid for drive shafts in the past I called Simon who sent me to Precision. I called them, $295. Big difference.....

Thanks Simon and thanks to Precision.

{Edit} Precission just called back and said, it was $345. That is still reasonable.

Sounds like Dicks tried to shaft you.

Those guys went to crap a few years ago. I've been thinking of giving High Angle Drivelines my business and see what all the fuss is about.

Dick's was great back in the early 90's when I used them and more importantly when Dick still owned the shop. He sold the shop several years ago. Since then, quality and pricing has gone down the tubes. I don't know of anybody that had a problem with one of Dick's shafts..... while he was there, but I seen several posts and talked with people about problems ever since he left.

Just before Xmas they quoted me $280...for no name parts...

I went to Flexy @ AbsoluteOffRoad....got me a nice CV with all Spicer components...very nice shaft...great customer service...$350, so I got the shaft, but it was painless!

 That's too bad to hear. Less than a year ago I had my rear DS w/cv with spicers and ft shaft for under 400.00. Guess I was lucky. Sorry to hear about that for you. I've never had problems with them over the years.

Dick's managed to loose some needles out of a u-joint on a front drive shaft I had retubed. You could see where they dropped it....a big ding in the end cap and missing needles. Of course, when I picked up the drive shaft (from having it retubed), the end caps were tape in place and I never bothered to look at it until I got hom. Jerks! That was the last time I sent them my business. Since then, I've been running Tom Wood drive shafts, front and rear, without any issues.

Wow, then I will consider myself lucky. Just before heading to the dunes I needed my CV rebuilt on the front driveshaft. Called, quote was $125. Took it to him, said it could be done in a couple hours. Got there asked about how much more it would be to have them put in a new u-joint at the other end, went up to $180, figured I would rather have the extra cash for the trip.

He said to hold on, he went in the back and did the work right then and there, charged me the $125 and threw in the other u-joint at the axle end for free. I had the rear DS done by them about 2.5 years ago, still going strong.

 Guess it's a hit and miss then. I'll probally be a little reluctant to go back now though. Even though I've had a few built by them for 4x4 and a p/u that would pull 11s in the quarter mile.
