....I am looking at getting a body lift. Most folks run a 1 inch but there are some 2 inch lifts also. Anyone have any input on the pros/cons of a 1 inch vs. a 2 inch?? I am planning on a 1 inch mm lift, probably a 3 inch lift, plus the body lift. Hopefully to clear 35's.

It's all a matter of preference.. 1 ,2,or 3" ... Tire size wise.. I run 33" tires right now and could easily clear 35" tires without a body lift ( I'm sprung over on stock YJ packs no Body lift)

If your looking to clear 35's try and do it with suspension body lifts just help with the tire rub..... then again a sawzall works great to !

:D It's really a matter of who you talk to. Some people like it some don't. Me I do for more than 1 reason. I have 2in b/l which allows me acces to the fuel lines when and if they are leaking, trying to get to a bolt that is in a bad spot, when I pulled the airtube out of my YJ gastank to convert it from a 14.5 to a 19.7 gallon tank giving, plus when on the trail NO Rubbing whether on the 32s now 35s but I also currently have a 6in lift. But still no sawzaw or plasma cutter. If you do lift the body to high it will still cause a binding. In off-camber situations it may cause pucker situations also. Just make sure if you do the b/l to do the m/m that'll also help on clearance a little. Just remember everyone has there own opinion as to why or why not. Weigh them all out carefully so you don't waste your money. You could try calling Simon @ 4Wheelers Supply, or Nick @ Performance Offroad. I'm sure both would be glad to answer any questions for you. Good luck in your decision making. Steve

I say do the 2"

1" really isnt that much and to do all of that work you might as well add that other inch ya know and do it right (if doing a B/L is right for you?)

I do not reccommend the 3" as it is a lot more work belive it or not.;)
I did a 2" on my 94 YJ , it was pretty darn easy, but the 3" would have been a PIA!

I run a 2". Some of the reasons are outlined above. That said:

Body lift moves approx 20% of the weight of your Jeep.

Suspension lift moves approx 65% of the weight of your Jeep.

If you want tire clearance it a good way to go.

I would be hesitate on a 3" lift, its becomes a whole nother bag of worms...

You do the math

Thanks for all the input. I am looking at what I mentioned in my first post as an interim step. Hopefully I will end up with a 4.5 inch lift(n degree mobility either short or long arm) and the body lift. I might just save a while longer and go directly there. I cannot get the links on nth degree to work right now though.

Take care,

Stomper,

My theory on body lifts is that you use it AFTER your suspension lift if you need a little more clearance (and I like the brakeline access idea--I never thought of that!). Maybe a 1-inch would be okay if absolutely necessary. Body lifts don't give you the flexibility that an all-spring lift will.

I am not a big body lift fan--I have seen long term effects of 2-3" body lifts start tearing apart the body. That said, at the rate you buy new Jeeps, it won't be a problem! ;) :D

At the rate he wheels his new jeeps, the body will last forever. Stop talking about it and lets do something. Has the big "Orange" even seen the dirt yet??:D :D ;) Decisions, decisions, should I wash my jeep or just buy a new one.

I have heard this echo'd many times over the years. That said, I and several folks I know run 2" BL and have yet to see any damage, cracking etc. Why, well I am not sure. I and several of my friends also run 37's on the tailgate with no apparent issues over the past 3 years, again I cannot say why.

My rig is nearly 3 1/2 years old, just rolled over 50k miles and has been wheeled hard and wheeled often.

True, Don. I must admit that most of the body lifts I dealt with were on YJ's (gosh, has it been that long?) that were rode hard and put away wet every day. We had some 2" body lifts on some of the fleet in '03, but only ran those for 1 year--mostly, I didn't like the looks compared to the spring lift

:D Fixed it for ya! :D
