In the very unfortunate event of a laydown. What needs done before you can restart the engine? Check the oil, battery,? Has anyone been through this? :(

It depends on the vehicle and the particulars of the "laydown" (that is a nice way to put it!).

Most of the time in four-wheeling situations, the vehicle is moving so slowly that only minor body damage occurs.

The majority of the time, Wranglers come right up and keep on driving. Naturally, if there were any fluids spilled, not only do you clean these up, but you probably need to replace them in your vehicle, and very carefully inspect for why the fluid spilled...Did the battery caps come off? Did the dipstick come out? Did the radiator tank split? etc...

Depends on what you call a 'laydown'? I have 'flopped' twice, once on each side. A flop being laying it down on the door side of the rig only. In this case, right it and check to see if you have leaked any fluids, if not, start and continue. Most flops will not result in loss of fluids or at worst a very minor seep. The overflow can and windshield fluid will most often drain themselves somewhat, but that is minor.

A complete roll over with the rig landing and resting on the roof is a different story. Goal one is to get the Jeep on its side or all four wheels ASAP. Take it from there as Nena [above] suggested.

I helped with the recovery of a vehicle that had flopped on its side and laid there for a while. Once back on its wheels, the driver unscrewed the spark plugs and then turned the engine over with the starter.....a LOT of oil came out of the spark plug holes....a LOT. I would be inclined to believe that he probably would have bent a rod or two if he had tried to just start it after it got on its wheels.

Your dead on with that. You can't let it lay there or you may well have oil seep into the combustion chambers.

I've always pulled the plugs on any roll-over and spun the starter a few times, better safe than sorry. If you've already rolled it over, the last thing you want to go and do is damage the engine by being lazy about pulling the plugs. My .02
