Wheeling adventures... day 2.
I met up with Jeff and Travis (Lost TJ) at the air down spot and we quickly determined my popping problem. It wasn't the track bar, it's actually the steering box. Interesting thing about that is that there isn't any fluid leaking or slop in the steering wheel or anything that would indicate a bad box.
After deciding it would be ok, we headed out to run Lower Terminator and would meet up with the other Travis after that. I had never been on it during the day in my own Jeep so it was a new experience. There was quite a bit of bumper/hood and rocker humping, especially on White Line. The problem with Lower Terminator today wasn't so much that it was harder, but it was WET!!!!!
Here's Jeff humping Travis on White Line:
http://tinypic.com/j7ro69.jpg
Here's Travis again, this time doing the Terminator obstacle. I tried it too and almost made it up. I had to end up doing the finish of the Z Turn and I can't wait for others to post pics/vids of that one... hehehe:
http://tinypic.com/j7ron4.jpg
Here's Jeff redeeming himself on the obstacle that he rolled on during the 101 run:
http://tinypic.com/j7rqdh.jpg
At the end of Terminator, the other Travis (LKD TJ) meets up with us and off we go to Judgment Day. Travis had never run this trail before so he was looking forward to something new. About 10 minutes into the trail... opps:
http://tinypic.com/j7rqs9.jpg
After a quick fix and the new spare is on, we start going again to the first waterfall. Jeff the weenie makes it right up before I could get any pics of him. Next in line is Travis and while trying to climb, I notice his rear wheel isn't spinning so I ask if the lockers are on to which yes was the reply and Jeff pipes up that the other side wasn't spinning either.... eh-oh... so out comes the strap:
http://tinypic.com/j7rrsy.jpg
After getting him up, oops #2 shows itself:
http://tinypic.com/j7rtbm.jpg
Travis has lost his rear DS at the CV joint. It was some sort of a fluke, we never heard a pop and there wasn't any indication of a problem until the waterfall. After removing the shaft, Travis was working with 2 wheel drive in the front and a lot of rocks to overcome. I took the bypass at a little bit of a different angle this time as to not have to do 5000 3 point turns and was relatively successful. I think I had to work it out 5 or 6 times to clear it. Travis was a weenie too as I was unable to get a pic of him going up the center waterfall, he was too quick on the throttle.
Further along the trail there was more humping:
http://tinypic.com/j7thq8.jpg
Here's Jeff at the last main obstacle on Judgment Day, he was trying to go up the left side but it had been washed out and worn down quite a bit from the last time we were there. He likes to get heavy on the throttle leading to raised tires:
http://tinypic.com/j7rv3o.jpg
After trying his best, he opted for the bypass as it just wasn't going to be his day on that side. We figured Travis might make it ok on 2 Wheel drive up the bypass but only could go so far, he needed to strap himself up:
http://tinypic.com/j7rwpt.jpg
I also took the bypass, not being locked I wouldn't even attempt the left side like Jeff did. Though Travis gave ti a good college try. He was almost up it at one point till his brake light came on and started chirping at him. It seems he lost a little pressure at some point and needed to back off and take the bypass after some of the pressure came back.
On the way out Travis tried to make it up some of the hill climbs in 2 wheel drive but unfortunately wasn't' as successful as we were hoping. Here is is taking on final strap from Jeff, and kicking up a lot of dirt in the process:
http://tinypic.com/j7rxir.jpg
For the most part Travis did pretty well with front wheel drive and a locker there were times that he made it though a rock garden or two w/o a tug and was pretty impressive.
Overall it was a good day with good wheelin' buds, fun conversation and people showing their undercarriage.

And my favorite pic of the day, and it just happens to include Travis' (Lost TJ) Jeep:

The colors matched with the water look really neat. Now we just need to edit Jeff out of the picture and it would be awesome. :p
I also seem to have become famous. On the way in we passed a group of Jeepers. I mention I didn't realize Santa owned a Jeep and the guy on the otehr end responded with, "That must have been Wind_Danzer". :D LOL AZRubi I believe it was and made mention that he always sees my posts. Then on the way out the same thing happened with 2 XJ's. I'm not sure who it was though, maybe Onley but I'm not sure. :D

WD are you famous or infamous  :D . One of these days I'm gonna have to get out to those trails and see what the fuss is all about. At least the carnage wasn't to severe.

I'd perfer to be infamous. ;)
Not sure what all the fuss is about either, that was the first time that has happened to me. Kinda flattering in a way. LOL :p
I think it's lack of da womens in this sport so it's easy to recognize someone of the opposite sex.

Such a drama queen Jamie. ;)
Now, with Rock Krawler suspension maybe you could keep all fours on the ground. :D

But then you'd need a passenger to run around putting your springs back in...

You just need a Currie Antirock to keep the spring in. ;) But then you would do a good job of lifting a tire. :D
Coming back into town was a little slow but not so much stop and go.

It was me and Olney. Glad to see you guys made it out ok. We were heading out to Tip Top to show the mine to a friend of Steve's.
BTW, of course you are famous :) , and I always notice Jeep chicks on the trail :D :D

I guess it wasn't my day. At least the weather was great, the company was awesome, and the strapping was long! I pretty much drove out under my own power, but here and there (mostly there :D ) I needed a little tug. I am now in the middle of doing a little more to make my rig a little more trail worthy, then I might be able to handle those 3.0-3.5?? ;) :D ?? Hopefully Jeff and I can be done with everything in a week or so. Cross your fingers. My brother took a couple of pics and when he emails them I will post them.

I have bump stop extensions in there now that should help keep the springs in. :D I have thought a lot about the Currie anti-rock and am not yet convinced. For a DD, the only one that really seems to possibly offer significantly more than what I have now is the ORO SwayLOC. And for that, I am not yet convinced there is $600 (or whatever it is) worth of value for me. Time will tell. Btw, I think the lack of lifting had as much to do with the line as anything else anyway. I saw an opportunity to razz you (tire lifting) and Nick (promoting RK) at the same time. Kind of a multiple entendre.
Anyway, I did not really intend to hijack this thread with sway bar discussions.
Nice pics!

Hah. Well, you know, figured if DMan can do it...
You got off easy. I could have razzed you about the lack of a maybe $11.00 spare part (buy two get one free at 4Wheelers) but didn't. Oh wait. Maybe I just did. :D
Were you walking on it at the time or do you think it was just accumulated duress that caused the breakage?

Lost TJ didn't brake, it was me (the other) Travis. When I broke I was trying to climb that waterfall in the pic WD posted and all of the sudden my rear wheels weren't turning. Jaime asked if my locker was on, I stated that it was, then someone locked at the passenger rear, to my surprise no motion. The CV has no hit marks, recently greased, it was wierd. Oh well, I think it will be warranteed.

I broke an axle stub shaft similarly. Climbing a fall, not on it hard at all, just snapped all of a sudden without even that much weight on it.

Hey, i thought i was the other Travis? I'm getting confused. :D Travis i reviewed the video and you can't even tell exactly whne it broke. One minute your back tires were rolling, then you backed up a tad and when you went forward the back tires were not working. No pop, No jump no boom or anything and you were not even gasing it hard. Definitley a freeky break. I can't wait to see what you and Jeff were talking about yesterday. I bet that will be the BOMB.

I talked to the guys at the driveline shop and I think (hope) they will take care of me. They said that it sounds like it was a bad part but wanted to see the DS. Although I think it may be a moot point because I think the length won't be right. ;)

Thanks dude. I try. You weren't there to see me cry for my mommy on the wet white line though. And i was crying mommy. :D As for being strapped, who hasn't been. It happpens. It is great how we all stick together and help each other. That is what counts. Are you wheeling this weekend? Or are you going to be deep into your project?
Have a good one man and cya.

I don't know if we are going to start the project or not. I am going to see if I can get down to Precision Driveline and if they will warrantee the CV and if they do, then I may wheel and try to start the project next week. This week seems like a bad time to start a major tear down, plus I will need time for the parts to get in. I don't want to be down for a month. I will talk to you soon.
