After a misunderstand over Christmas Dinner, I had made plans to attend the Mud Springs run for something to do on Christmas. I'm glad I did. We met at the Arby's lot with Kevin in the 4 Runner and Gary in his pretty sweet Rubicon.
After waiting till about 9:20, we headed out, got to the trail head, aired down and on the way we went. The first few miles or so were pretty easy and scenic. We stopped just before the trail got a little more rocky and off camber for a quick break:

A pretty view:

Here we are working our way along a nice tight ridge:

And down to the first true obstacle:

Trust me, it's scarier then it looks:

After squeezing by the rock extremely off camber, you need to climb out of the wash some to go to the right where there is a little ledge to climb or to the left where you need to navigate some more of the wash and soem large rocks. Poor Kevin needed the strap though I shouldn't talk. After the picture below, I needed it too.

I could touch the ground out of my passenger side window, if I wanted to:

After getting out of that situation *gulp*, we made or way onward. Here's another picture towards the city this time:

There were a lot of off camber washes and hill climbs where we all had a little issue. Kevin got all crazy twisted up in soem spots and lifted a few tires here and there. His 4 Runner was a great rig though, very flexy. Gary's rig did well too, as the leader he really knew his way around the area. He had to back up and rearrainge himself a few times but never really got himself into jams like Kevin and I.
Once we got past some of the hairy stuff we stopped for lunch. What a spread. Gary and his friend brought ham, turkey, tater salad, condiments, chips, dessert and all the drinks one could want. It was wonderful!!

After a good lunch and conversation, we decided it was getting a little late in the day to finish the trail as Kevin had obligations in the evening. So from there we headed back. Both Kevin and I had some pucker factor on the way back while Gary seemed to walk all over things.
In the end all made it out w/o issues other then a few scratches here and there.
Here's my pic of the day, I love the contrast in colors:

Overall it was a great day with some new wheeling buddies. I look forward to wheeling with everyone again in the near future. Thanks for the awesome Christmas gift, wheeling on the trail in 80 degree weather.
I look forward to seeing the other pics, including me getting all that air time today. BTW, I told Eric I almost rolled it, it was more like almost flopping it, a few times. LOL I just wanted to clear that up. hehe
