I'm going to do a nice easy run to Bulldog Canyon tomorrow. If anybody wants to join me they are more than welcomed, but you must have a permit from the Tonto National Forest (No exceptions).
Meet at the west entrance to FR 3554 off of Ellsworth Rd. (a.k.a. Usery Pass Rd.) at Noon 1200 PM. This will be about a 2 to 3 hour run. Stock Jeeps are welcomed. Will be on CB channel 4. I'm not posting this on the old site. So if your interested post here so I know who to look for.

Before I do anything, I always ask, "How will this affect Kevin?" What can I say, its just how I live my life.
Is Bryan going or is there a sale at the mall  You should tell him that the lever marked 4LO isn't just for curbs and potholes :D

I appreciate you thinking of me before anything else. :D I spoke to Mike earlier and he said that Bryan was going on a run at some place called Desert Ridge (Marketplace).:D :D

No, I think he said he was going to the Superstitions. The Superstitions Springs Mall to flex out his jeep on the speed bumps.

Man, there's no one but snowbirds out there this time of year. Whats he doing putting the Jeep on a speed bump and yelling, "Hey Grandma, check out my mad flex, yo!" :D

It was a perfect day for wheeling! Thanks for joining me Jim and Kevin.
The trail is now easier than it was a month ago thanks to the forest department for plowing it. Any of the half way challenging areas are now so smooth you could almost drive a mini van through it. Besides the grading, the trail is very scenic as usual. This is a great starter trail for stock Jeeps.
We also did the eastern leg of the trail where the fire was this past summer. It was sad to see all that area burned.:( All in all it was a great day wheeling with a couple of my buds.

Thanks for setting this one up Mike. Once again, another great day on the trail. This was my first time out to the area and as expected it was very scenic. It was nice to just plod along and enjoy the scenery. I was in the mood for an easy day. Somebody was saying that the trail used to be a little more challenging, but I guess the Forest Service must have plowed the road . Any way, lots of laughs were shared and as usual it was a tough crowd :D . I'll post up some pics a little later.

Did you guys get over near the Willow Springs trail to the East at all? Myself and a buddy were running that one on the same day and heard some radio chatter on ch.4, but we could just hear the voices. We went all the way to the end (dumps to Saguaro lake), and came back not seeing anyone on the trail we were. I don't know if CB signals would have been able to reach you guys over there, but you never know.

That was probably us, we took the trail (I forget the FR#) that exits out onto Apache Trail past the old mining town.

No we didn't get over there but we were just west of you guys on the eastern leg of Bulldog Canyon so it was probably us you heard on the CB.

Hey Mike, looks like fun. Have to get my permit and run that with you sometime. Is the 15th still a go?

Yup, probably you guys. Have you ever run Willow Springs? It gets pretty interesting once you get way back in there...if you like extreme rocks;)

I ran it once but I didn't get all the way back there because I was by myself. Would like to do the whole trail some time.

Let me know when you want to Lance, I'm only 5 mins from the trail head on the west side. I'd also like to get some stockers out there to show them a good trail to run. So any of you that have stock jeeps and want to run Bulldog Canyon, get your permits from the Tonto National Forest Mesa District office (not open on weekends). They are free and good for 6 months. If we get enough people interested I'll post a run.
As far as the 15th Lance, it's still a go unless something comes up.
I'll keep you informed.;)

Which is this "Eastern Leg" you're talking about? Is it the FS Rd that you can take betwen the quad play-area and the gate on the South/Apache Junction end?
We did our trip solo on Tuesday, and jeez, you could drive a stinking Honda CRV through the trail now. Still beautiful scenery, but it wouldn't even challenge a stock Jeep at all anymore. Thanks, Mesa Ranger District. Good job, there!

Yep, thats the trail. I agree with you on driving a Honda CRV on it now. I couldn't beleive they did that to the trail. I just don't understand why the greenies are so negative towards us claiming we destroy the environment when the dang forest department plows the trail and takes out the surrounding vegetation with it.  I mean there was a section on the trail that you could take instead of going up a hill where you could flex your rig out. That section is completly flat and the vegetation cleared wide enough you could drive a bus through it!

This same forest service is putting up signs and "formalizing"(?) the mtn bike trails near Hawes Rd/Las Sendas, too. This has been my favorite spot to ride for the past...oh...12yrs. The trails were there before I started riding, too, and have managed to take care of themselves just fine. Well, now, the only somewhat technical loop out there has had several ruts filled in and smoothed out.
Wonder what the FS has in store for me/us next?
Do they not understand that the physical/technical challenge is what jeepers/bikers relish? Pushing oneself/machine to limits...or rather, accomplishments??!! Do they not understand that NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO RUN EVERY TRAIL REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY RIDE/DRIVE OR HOW EXPERIENCED THEY ARE? If that was the case, then what is there to aspire to????
SHEESH!!!!!!!!!!
