Awhile back someone went into Sibley Mansion and mentioned a locked gate. I can't locate the thread. Where was the locked gate? I'd like to go into that area after the first of the year and hate to backtrack.

Okay I found the thread and if we get down there I'll post what we find.

I just tried to see Sibley Mansion on Sunday 4-22-06. There is a locked gate across the trail, maybe a mile past the Y. You can go the other way on the Y to Bluebird Mine, that's open.
And if you try to loop around on Copper Creek to the west, another locked gate. I had to backtrack the way I came up, from Mammoth.

No access to Sibley may be permanent. With no landfill to serve Mammoth and other nearby communities, locals dump along the access roads which are on private property. Those owners cannot keep up with the mess and have been cited despite the problem not being self-caused.
It's a shame. This was one scenic area and the trail through the wash was a lot of fun. The right side of that off-camber climb (near the wash end) will be missed by me. :)
