Here's a little tidbit that I read in today's USA Today. They always have a little quip from every state about something everyday. Somehow the numbers on this one don't look right, because that would be like an average of $202,000 an acre. But I copied this right out of the print.

Arizona: Phoenix
The Arizona State Land Department took in a record $515 million for sales of 2550 acres of state land this year. Home builders are already queuing up to pay top dollar for prime pieces of land across the Phoenix area to be auctioned in 2006.

Yep! It's very possible. This chunk sold for $590,000 per acre. I feel sorry for the taxpayers who live in Scottsdale who get to pay for it.

(Phoenix, September 15, 2005) On Wednesday, the Arizona State Land Department sold 80 acres of prime State Trust Land in Scottsdale for $47.2 Million, nearly $20 Million over the opening bid of $27.6 Million. The successful bidder was the City of Scottsdale and the property is located on the north side of Bell Road at the intersection of 94th Street.
