I bought a set of weld-in motor mounts from Novak Enterprises when I did
mine. The portion that mounts to the block are "ears" where you can position
the motor where you want it and drill your hole through this ear and align it
with the welded-in engine mount at the frame. This allowed me to position
the engine side-to-side and get just the right spot. Then I drilled my
holes, bolted the ears to the lower mount and then welded the lower mount to
the frame.
As for the tranny/tcase position, just redrill your cross member or make a
new one.

By the way, if you don't do this offset the engine/tranny, your front drive
shaft WILL hit your tranny pan! I've offset mine and the balance weight has
hit my pan under slight compression of the front suspension. That's how
close it is.

Thanks !! That was what I was going to do. My plans were to go home
remove it and check it out before spending any money. Especially
after the garage told be the price of a new one would be $900!! I
was considering putting one of my PII computers under the hood!! j/k
Anyway I removed it and took it apart. And just as I thought there
are no user serviceable parts. It was cool though seeing that it was
protected with about a half inch of rubber on the circuit board.
Then I noticed a drop of water on the connector. Hummm, then I
shook the connector with the wires and sure enough!!! SOAKED.
Evidently that connector was drowned as was the rest of my Jeep. I
thought after 2 weeks it would have dried up. and more importantly
be better protected. Not having an air hose I use the 6.5 hp shop
vac to dry the connector. I put it all back together and seems to
be working pretty good. I drove it for about a half hour last night
and I am at work with it now. No light and no symptoms!! (knock on
wood) It may take a while before I am confident with it again. I am
looking at this as a learning experience. A pretty good one at that.
I have a question to all. Can you put none conductive grease on the
connector that goes directly to the computer? There is another
electrical connector with this grease caked on underneath the hood.
I know that this grease can change the electrical characteristics of
the connector, but would this be enough to effect the performance of
the computer? TIA

I'd spend the 150.00 and call it fixed..

Have fun... a friend of mine is in the middle of putting a 350 out of
a '96 corvette in his CJ7. It is the biggest pain in the butt. The
radiator and fan doesn't fit, the A/C compressor hits the suspension
(he is running the black diamond coil kit). It just seemes like there
is a ton of tiny little things that have made it a pain.
I'm not sure what part of town your in, but if you want to look at it

It's really difficult to point out all of the pitfalls with this swap.
Every swap is unique and different. Some key elements are exhaust routing,
engine placement, driveline angles, electrical wiring, accessories and
hooking them to existing equipment (IE powersteering pump to box, power brake
booster - if you have one). Probably your best course of action is to take
each part seperately and ask the list about suggestions on how to handle that
one. Your going to have to just plow through it and think through each
section. To try to put it all down here is difficult.
For reference, I have a CJ7 that I did a 350 swap and TH350 tranny. You can
read through a little writeup that I did a long time ago at my website listed
below. I'd be more than willing to answer any other questions as they arise.
Good luck.................

Subject: Custom Rock rails for sale
Hello to all,
I have a set of rock rails for a CJ7 for sale. These
rails are built out of 3/16 thick angle with .090
tubing. They are very tough! The sizes are 50 inches
long, 3 inches in height, and 4 inches out from the
body. They fit a CJ7 from the front of the tub to the
rear of the tub. They bolt on with 3 bolts (included,
grade 8) to the tube side and optional two bottom
bolts (you will have to drill these) These rails offer
great protection!!
Cost is $150.
Please visit my photopoint album for a picture of how
these rock rails look.
I will post some pictures of a pair that are mounted
as soon as I get them.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Here is a brief of what we did.
Take off the whole front clip (fenders-grill-radiator) all together. Unbolt
3 or 4 bolts per side on the firewall and under the grill, it come out easy.
Then, take off your engine and leave the bellhousing tranny etc in.
Mark on your firewall where the actuall bellhousing is so you have that
reference for later on.
Take off driveshafts and tranny tcase, skidplates too.
Now bring the new tranny and put it under the Jeep, lift it and place it
where it will be (height, try to center it).
Then, use some crossmember and put it on the rear yoke, make the tranny rest
on it. We used a 4x2 channel (if you give me a few days, Ill put up a
preview of pictures etc) and used clamps to attach it to the frame.
then add two bolts to the bellhousing long enough so you can use a bar and
make it rest on the frame. Now you have the tranny tcase more or less on
its place.
On my CJ7 there was a bump stop to protect the carter on the diff side, we
had to grind it off. Unbolt actual motor mounts.
Take off the bolts of the bellhousing but add a jack on the bottom of it so
you can manuever it.
Bring in the engine with the cherry picker or anything you can hang it with
the flywheel and clutch etc bolted on.
Put it together with the tranny etc. Bolt it.
Now take measurements, firewall clearence. Floor tub clearence with
shifters etc.
Watch for clutch clearence.
Take measurements of the horizontal and vertical degrees. Watch for
clearence on the carter. Bolt on hedders and see if they fit. We use
Hedman Fenderwell so exhaust was not an Issue.
Radiator need to be modified to fit the engine lower hose on the passanger
side (stock CJ is drivers side) Any radiator shop should make it for a few
bucks.
Will send and continue on other email....

Once you see the degrees etc, you are ready to bolt on the frame mounts.
The TDPefrormance.com mounts I used, are great.
2 pices, one goes on the engine, another on the frame and joined by a bolt
and bushings.
Bolt the engine part, clamp the frame ones and then drill to place them....
Thats where Im right now...
Issues so far?
- Had to grind and drill on the transmission to fit the novak and
bellhousing holes.
- Had to take a chevy pilot bushing to be machined to fit the T18 shaft, I
think I lost the one provided by novak-adapt.com
- Still need to make a clutch brakcet to bolt it to the bellhousing, no big
dea.
- Motor offset 1.2" to clear the clutch levlers or whatever is their name.
ITS LOOKING BAD BAD BAD!
I will make a custom front end, even wanted to run a hole on the hood to
clear the air filter but there wont be need for that, LOTS OF CLEARENCE!
I may have at least half the article by the end of March on the April Issue
of AllOffRoad.com
Hope this helps, ask any questions

Hi David,
I haven't made a set for a YJ yet. Can't see as though
there would any problem with it. I would have to get
measurements for them.
I haven't really thought about making them airtight,
but anything is possible!!!!
They really wouldn’t hold all that much. They are 1.57
ID and about 51 inches of tube length.
Let me know.

Those look good.
The angle seems to be small IMO. I used 4"x4"x1/4". I once fell in a hole
maybe 20" tall and landed on the rocker.
Now I took them off for the engine swap and so, they arent even scratched.
We added a few under supports so it would sit on the body.,,,
But yours look way better than my $60 pos's

They run $150 for a pair, unpainted. I'll drill the
holes for the body mount. The bottom holes I'll leave
for you to drill. Everyone has a preference about
drilling holes in their Jeep. The bottom bolts can be
put in many different places. I'll try to get some
more detailed pics up tonight.

Hi David,
I haven't made a set for a YJ yet. Can't see as though
there would any problem with it. I would have to get
measurements for them.
I haven't really thought about making them airtight,
but anything is possible!!!!
They really wouldn’t hold all that much. They are 1.57
ID and about 51 inches of tube length.
Let me know.

TIA

Replacing the comp is easy. Just unplug the old one and plug in the
new
one.... Check out a hanes manual for the location of the computer.

I will post some pictures of a pair that are mounted
as soon as I get them.
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=44247&a=10629638&f=0
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thank you,
Bill A.

Ok so I have 7 stock 15x6" jeep TJ rims (5 on 4.5) with P205-75R15
street tires on them all have less than 500 miles on them. I need to
get rid of them, so if anyone wants them, come pick them up as they
will be free. I'm sure they are worth something to someone that needs
new tires for a trailer or whatnot. I just don't have the storage
space for them. Otherwise, can someone tell me where I should take
these to get rid of them for free or even get a couple bucks for 'em?
TIA

TJ's are no problem. I can put a set together for you.
The only issue is with the Sahara models. (lots of
plastic stuff) I would like to take measurements form
the same year as yours though.
What year is yours?

Those look good.
The angle seems to be small IMO. I used 4"x4"x1/4". I once fell in a hole
maybe 20" tall and landed on the rocker.
Now I took them off for the engine swap and so, they arent even scratched.
We added a few under supports so it would sit on the body.,,,
But yours look way better than my $60 pos's

They run $150 for a pair, unpainted. I'll drill the
holes for the body mount. The bottom holes I'll leave
for you to drill. Everyone has a preference about
drilling holes in their Jeep. The bottom bolts can be
put in many different places. I'll try to get some
more detailed pics up tonight.
