Make a full 'family' style cage for a CJ8? If so, how much?

What is on the underside of the A pillar? Is it bolted through the tub (only) or is there a frame tie-in somewhere?
Looks nice.

Wondering here, isn't the dash bar supposed to be the one on the top of the cage in the front? I can't say I've never seen the angled bar placed at the dash. Can say I've seen it on top of the cage to keep the spreaders straight and even with the cage side bars provided the spreaders don't already have a bend in them downwards as they approach the front of the vehicle. In the second picture it looks as if the spreaders are angeling downwards, lessening headroom.

Jamie;
I think Todd did the dash spreader bar that way to attach it higher on the "A" pillars, but then to have it swing down closer to the dash for added visability. My Poison Spyder cage has the dash spreader sitting high and straight across, thus diminishing my view. Todd's design also adds a little different look.
The center spreaders sloping down really won't hurt headroom as you basically don't sit there. :D I would however prefer the cage to be attached to the windshield for more rigidity and to keep the rear view mirror from vibrating at speeds. This is just a personal preference as I really like the looks of Todd's cage. Hope that helps. :)

Is there a code on how it is supposed to be.:p This is how I feel it works the best for a basic TD cage with 1 3/4. Yes the center spreaders angle down some but do not sacrifice head room at all. :D :D

I think the cage looks great! The TJ cage is the most difficult of all CJ thru TJ cages to construct. Good job Todd.:)

Does anyone have atleast a ballpark cost on a Cage. I want to replace the stock cage (YJ) with a 6pt that is tied to the frame. I also want to have my seats supported in the cage with a 5pt harnes. Also want some spreaders and to protect the rear passengers.
Just want to know what to expect to start saving $$.

Joey!!!
Where the heck have you been?
Expect $1300 - $2000 for a GOOD, QUALITY cage with all the requirements you just listed. This should include removal of the original cage, and then all the work done to it. They are not cheap, and a cage is one place not to go cheap...know what I mean?

I just put my full cage in!! I went with the Poison Spyder full cage. It retails for about $800 unwelded. It was a pain to get the factory cage out, then we had to tack weld the new one, then pull out the new one and finish welding, prime, and paint. I think the point is, it took about 12 hours for everything. But I love the new cage!!!Food for thought. Not to take anythign away from Desert Fab's cause that one is awesome, I would rather have mine go through the dash but I didn't know about their cage before hand. Just my experience.

Most TJ kits go through the dash. I don't think there is enough room in a YJ dash to go behind it.

Right on Mike. That is about where I was puttin' the price at. Thanks.
I have been lurking. I have been doing the family thing. But this year will be adventurous. I plan on getting out and do some exploring and camping. There is a lot more to Arizona then just table mesa, white tanks, bradshaws, florence jct., ect. I got to go see it!

Is there any way that you could post a clearer picture of the top of the dash where the bar goes through it? I'm a little confused on where you cut the dash to run the cage through.
Thanks

I don't have a clearer pic, but I can describe it to you.
At the very far forward corner of the dash, there is mainly just a skin there. It is right against the windshield. That is what you cut of the dash.
Below that is a small pinch weld seam (lip) that you often have to grind a bit. This keeps the cutting of the dash to a minimum and allows the uprights to stay as close to the windshield frame as possible so as to lessen the chance of losing visibility in this area... which is all too common with many real cage kits (not the kind that bolt to the side of the dash/cowl).
If done right, you can barely tell that this wasn't a factory piece of the vehicle.
