Subject: Questions: Compatible Trannys
Hi all....posted a note yesterday after I pulled my 4speed asking a
couple of questions (thanx to those that responded)....as I lay under
the jeep this afternoon contemplating life I came to an epiphany...I
want to got automatic....I figured why spend several hundred $$ or
more getting my 4speed rebuilt when I can be shiftless.....which
brings me to my questions:
a. other than a TH350, what other options do I have???
b. what length output shaft should the tranny have on it for a CJ5??
c. what can I expect to pay for an auto??? (checker had rebuilts for
$299.00) I know the adapter kits are expensive so......
d. the jeep is a daily driver, and since I can't really afford a
tranny AND the adapter at one time....would I be able to set it up to
run just 2WD in the interim???...I believe the only prob I should have
will be the need for a longer drive shaft....would there be any other
problems I should consider....hopefully it would only be for a month
or so....
e. and finally....where would I begin my search for a suitable
tranny??
sorry this is so long, but I really am quite clueless at this point...
and and all help would be greatly appreciated....

the only thing i can think of would be to pull the top off of the tranny and manually put the tranny into neutral and manually move the shift rod back into neutral from the shift fork side. however i dont know how easy the tranny will go back into neutral by hand if its really hard to do with the shift lever.

All,
Sorry for using a wrong terminology here. You are
correct about you can't have a body lift on a ZJ.
What I meant was using body spacers that go between
the uniframe & suspension coils (4"BS + 4.5" RE

Yes, its called a Section repair, most over the road/retreading
places can do it. You can do a search for ARM( American Rubber Manufac
turing) and find out about the saftly, they are DOT approved.

Jake,
Thank you for all your help. I'm forwarding this message on to the Jeep club. I'll be ordering early March.
Thank you,

Jeff,
Primer is fine but usually not necessary if the surface can be roughed well (80 grit) and cleaned well with xylene or acetone.
Two cases (4 gallons per case) will get an $80 discount.

Your product sounds great. Do you recommend a primer coat before application, or is bare metal a better surface. How many gallons would we need to order to get a volume discount?
Thank you,
Jeff

All,
Sorry for using a wrong terminology here. You are
correct about you can't have a body lift on a ZJ.
What I meant was using body spacers that go between
the uniframe & suspension coils (4"BS + 4.5" RE
Ultimate Kit). Thanks for point this out.

Subject: 5 point seat belts
hey I'm looking to put 5 point seatbelt in both my driver and my passenger seats. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get them and about how much they run. It's for my 97' TJ.
Thanks
