isn't there a way to activate the codes by turning the ignition switch on
and off several times, then counting the blinking lights???...I seem to
remember something about a website that has the codes posted.....anyone else
remember or was it all just a bad dream??? :)

Hi Greg,
I would put a few bucks down that it is your upstream
O2 sensor. Most likely max out on the high voltage
side. I just put on in my Dodge a few days ago. Have a
friend that works at Ernharts, we and a few of the
techs talked about it in great detail. The tune up
tech said that jeeps get it all the time. The sensor
will most likely run around $100 for OEM. You ccan try
aftermart for the generic.

I thought I posted this, but I must have screwed it up.
This feature is only available on '97 TJ's. Too bad. It sounds like
it's pretty handy.

Hey Greg,
To check what the light means do this...
After you get back from a run to the store...
Turn your Jeep off off, then turn the ignition on, off, on , off and then
on. The light will flash a number code. Say for 23, it will flash twice
then pause and flash three times. If there is more than one code it will
pause 5 secs. between codes. When it gives you a code 55, it is done. Let
me know what you get and I'll tell you what it means, I have a code chart
here.

Subject: [TR] Lake Pleasant to Crown King - Thursday, March 1, 2001
Hello All,
This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!
Matt Holtey is leading a Lake Pleasant to Crown King trail run on Thursday, March 1, 2001.
When: Early around 8:00am
Where: My house
Rating: 3.0
Length: all day 9-10 hours
CB Channel: 5
The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King.
The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.
The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.
In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.
Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge.
There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.
Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.
Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.
Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

I'm sure O-R Fab could fab some up and weld them on for you. Not sure

The check engine light came on in my 93 YJ due to a loose fuse in the master fuse panel that's inside the engine compartment, I pushed the fuse back down tight, restarted the engine and "viola", no more light. I would suggest before you have the dealer charge you a bunch of money for what could be an easy "home fix", you should double check all your fuses as well as the sensor connections.

Actually, it depends on the tranny you have as to which Atlas to get. Last
thing I heard was that any of the gear ratios are good for manual trannys,
but if you have an auto tranny, they do no recommend any ration lower than
the 3.8. The problem is that the 4.3 ratio will overdrive the tranny and
make it very difficult to stop or stay stopped. Never seen this in person,
but thats what Advanced Adapters was saying.

I'm looking to buy some new tires for my 87 XJ w/ 3" Rustys Lift.
I've been pondering the ProComp 31x10.5 MT's. I've heard good things
about these tires, but I've heard some bad things too. The current
issue of JP says:
"probably one of the best buys in aggressive tires." "...the tire
isn't really designed for crazy-extreme use."
Soooo, since I plan on doing more trail running and camping than
crazy rock crawling, I think they should be ok. Anyone live in the
Scottsdale area? Just looking for jeeping neighbors for when I move
to AZ in August.
One more thing, on a more technical note:
When I use reverse on my XJ (5spd) it makes a loud popping noise.
I've checked all my U-Joints. It only does this in reverse. Any
ideas?
Thanks!

Ha! The only reason that they recommend the 3.8 for automatic transmissions
is because thats the only way they can get rid of them. <laugh>
I think that the problem with automatics occurs only when you are relying on
the engine for compression breaking while going downhill. Going uphill, you
get a torque multiplication factor of 2:1 (when the engine is driving the
transmission). Going downhill, the reverse is true... the transmission is
now trying to drive the engine, and with the torque reduction, compression
braking doesn't work so well...
Either way... I think it would be a mistake to get the 3.8:1 when the 4.3:1
is available... if you don't like the lower ratios; start off in fourth gear
and it will be just like the stock transfer case <grin>.

Actually, the problem is that your brakes are just not strong enough to
hold you with a 4.3 and an automatic at idle. It really won't stop. I
have heard first hand accounts. You have to pop it into neutral, which
can be pretty lame depending on what you are doing.

4th gear is generally weaker than 1st or 2nd...
I know very happy people with the old atlas (3.5:1) and I really don't
think anyone should get a 4.3 just to spend more and get a 4.3. You
ought to write out everything on paper and calculate your ratios to
figure out what really works for _you_. It could be a 4.3, 3.8, or maybe
even a 3.5 would work for you, which would save you some $$$. Keep in
mind that a stock D20 is 2:1, D300 2.62:1, and a NP231 is 2.72:1.

I've read what Chris is saying on a couple different forums. The crawl ratio with the 4.3 is too low when coupled to an automatic with its torque converter that the brakes are ineffective. Yu push them hard but they do nothing. Pretty scary.

Hi Greg,
I would put a few bucks down that it is your upstream

Hey Greg,
To check what the light means do this...
Let
me know what you get and I'll tell you what it means, I have a code chart
here.

Hello All,
This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!

Subject: Tips on Tires
