Mike,

I'd recommend putting a winch at the top of the hillclimb training just to be on the safe side.

Some thoughts:

For the clinic part, it is definitely my intention to have a variety
of "obstacles" for participants to practice on. I'd like to have 4 or
5 "stations" each with a different type of obstacle.

1. Shorter Hills – short steep hills. Participants would practice
going up and down.

2. Off-Camber – Short sections of off camber trail – Participants
would practice driving both left and right leans.

3. Longer Sand/Loose granite hills. Participants would practice
going up, backing down (as in many cases with these types of hills,
it takes more than one attempt) and driving down (once they've made
it to the top)

4. Rocks – short sections of rocks for participants to practice on.
Participants would practice tire placement and learn other traction
techniques. Both solid rock and rolling rock should be on hand. Also
a short ledge, like the one on the Crown King trail, would be nice.

5. Twisty spots – short sections that will flex the suspension.
Participants would practice tire placement and learn other traction
techniques.

Of course no participant would be forced or coerced into doing
anything they are not comfortable with. They would be encouraged to
tread lightly, use common sense, and take their safety and the safety
of others around them into consideration.

It also looks like we've narrowed it down to a few areas.

1. East of the Haul Road, near the old P4W Ranch - knowing this area
pretty well, it has some of everything and would lend itself well to
both a clinic and a trail run, as well as a sufficient amount of
camping space, should this turn into a 2 day event, and it sounds
like it will. I already have several areas in mind for the different
stations; I'm just trying to remember if these areas are east or west
of the haul road. There isn't a lot of debris for a clean up, but
I'm sure that if we looked we could find some.

2. Coves - I haven't been there, but I'm told that we could find
areas like those described above. And there is an incredible amount
of trash for a clean-up; from what I've heard, we could spend the
entire weekend cleaning up and still not get it all. I haven't heard
how camping space.

3. South End of the White Tank Mnts - I know this area pretty well as
well, it also has some of everything and plenty of trash to be picked
up. I'm not sure about camping in the area though.

4. Sycamore Creek area – I've been to this area once or twice, it
also appears to have everything we are looking for, as well as a
sufficient amount of trash for a clean up.

I suggest that a few small groups get together and check out these
areas, specifically looking for places we could have stations set up
as well as a camping, and a potential trail to run. After each site
has been visited, the groups could get together to discuss the pros
and cons of each area. I'd be willing to check out both the P4W and
the South End of the White Tank Mts.

Saturday we could have the clinics, and on Sunday, a few runs. The
potluck seemed to work well for the Christmas Party, so a Saturday
Evening Potluck sounds good. As the clinics probably will not take
all day, a few 4x4 games could be arranged, as well as some games for
the kids.

Since the 13th is Mothers' Day, I'd suggest doing this the weekend
after Tax Day, April 19th and 20th.

Thoughts?

Doh!

I guess that happens when you try to rush, I turned one too many pages in
the calendar and didn't even stop to think that Mother's day would be in
May! Jeez am I a genius!

We could actually have it ON Tax-Day.. April 14th and 15th.

Mike am I missing something here??? April 13th is on a Friday...and I can't
remember Mother's day ever being in April.

However this year April 15th is also Easter Sunday, so doing it the
following weekend would be better for everyone I am sure. That would be
April 21-22. Or are you talking about doing it in May(traditionaly when
Mother's day is celebrated)?

Also Mike I would be interested in tagging along on the scouting trips if
you want someone to follow.

I must have one of these "politically correct" calendars.. there's no
religious holidays listed on it at all.

Well 2 strikes...

How does Apr 21st and 22nd sound?

Just as a reminder - you can order AZVJC hats at ZapCaps at Arizona Mills Mall. There is a template there for AZVJC and they will make you a great looking hat on the spot - it takes about 10 minutes. You can choose the cap style and color and you can change the template to suit your own tastes if you wish.

Ask for Cindy - she is the store manager. He phone number is 480.777.2401
The template is stored on Disk 15 and it is called Arizona Jeep. Just give her the info and she can show you what it would look like.

Subject: Tera 4:1 and 2LO install

I'm installing my Tera 4:1 and 2LO kits tomorrow. The 231 t-case I am
putting them in is already off the vehicle and sitting in my garage.

Any last minute tips or comments from those who have installed before?

I've read through the documentation a few times and can not find anything
that seems out of the ordinary, except for the wording on step 20. They
have you remove a seal and bearing (front output shaft). Is this then
transferred to the Tera case? Is that what the extra seal is for that comes
with the 4:1 kit? (the way the step is worded....they have you installing a
replacement bearing (where did that come from) back in the same spot along
with a replacement seal).

Other than that, the rest of it looks pretty straight forward.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks........Stu

Stu, I forgot to mention...look closely at your transmission mount when you
get the skid plate off. I have had to replace mine 3 times since I have had
my 97 TJ. They cost $50 from Jeep. It might be a good idea to replace it
even if it isn't broken. I keep looking for a stronger mount for a TJ but
have not found one yet.

Is there an AZVJC member who lives in Safford? We are planning a sand dune
run down there in a couple of weeks and I would like to talk to you about
it.

Mine is very VERY scratched! Call it almost opaque! Anyway I was
thinking of taking my windows to some where like Phoenix Tent Co. in
Phoenix (duh), to maybe sow in a new piece of plastic. Maybe even a
tinted piece. Anyone done/thought of that?

While taking off the the rear traction bar I noticed that the
previous owner that put the lift on did not extend the break line.
What it looks like is they pulled the steel tube out of its bracket
on the frame a gained about 2 inches of length.
Should I be concerned about its lenght or is it ok as is? and if so
where is the best (cheapest) place to get a steel braid replacement?

I would like to go do a good run on sun. Anyone wanna run Upper terminator
or lower.. posibly both. Upper terminator I would say is a 4 Lower is
about the same. Upper alone will probably be only 2 to 2 1/2 hours.. is
pretty short and not anything super challenging. SO with no breakage it
could be a short day. I am trying to get a good group together right now I
have three. Ayone interested please let me know. I was thinkin of takin
off between 9 and 10 in the am from table mesa rd. I will give directions
to anyone who needs them and when you respond tell me what time works for
you. The three going are pretty flexible.

NOW HURRY AND RESPOND!!!!
