Hard to say which SYE is best as few people have had the opportunity to try all the various brands.

Advanced Adapters and JBConversions both make a good product. Lots of them on the trail and that says something about the durability, IMO.

Any good drive shaft shop can make you a good double cardan drive shaft. There are some name brands out there, such as High Angle Drivelines (I think that is what they go by) and Tom Wood are a couple.

I have an Advanced Adapters SYE and a Tom Wood drive shaft. The $200 gift certificate I won this spring was the motivation behind getting the drive shaft from Tom Wood. :)

Check out http://www.mad4wd.com , they have the AA SYE kit for $220 shipped anywhere. This is really a screaming deal for the Advanced Adapter kit.

As far as drivshafts, I got mine locally at Dicks Driveshaft. Few reasons I went locally.

1. Local, anything wrong, drive to thier shop and they fix it.
2. Good deal on the driveshaft.
3. Local, called at 11:30 AM, went to pick it up at 1:00PM.
4. I have only heard of one bad experiance from them out of all the people that use them.

I've posted numerous times about the poor service I had at Dick's. In fact, there is even a page on my web site, with pictures, showing what they tried to pawn off as good service.

I've talked to others who have had less than adequate service there too.

It seems that quality fluctuates based on who works on your drive shaft....some give quality work, others don't. Dick runs another shop up in the Payson area (I believe that was where they built it). Talking with some people, they say he spends a lot of his time there. It appears that once he stopped being the main presence at the Phoenix shop, things began to slip a bit.

This is based on my own personal experience and I am sure others have something different to say about it. :)

i have had a few bad shafts from them but i think i have found the problem, they have stopped useing spicer parts.i just had a new C/V made by them and we went in the back and found the last few spicer parts they had.you can tell them that you want it made with spicer parts but they will have to order the parts in and that will take a few days so its.as far as bad service i think everyone has had some sort of bad service with all the driveshaft shops around town so its take a pick!!!

I have had 2 different sye kits one was a re hack and tap which I would never do again after I twisted off the output shaft. And the other I just installed a teralow sye today I wouldnt pay reg. price for it but I got a smoken deal on it from a friend at offroad unlimited. As for the driveshafts I have and always will use master shaft good prices great service.

Your "supposed" to install the kit first, then measure for accuracy. What you do is measure from center of yoke to center of yoke. Since you don't have your kit yet, you don't have a place to go off of at the transfer case. Installing them are pretty easy, takes standard hand tools, and some common sense. JamesT and I did our together, and he did a nice writeup on it. I *think* Stu Olsen has it on his site too.

I always seem to have a good chuckle to myself when I see someone bag on the "hack-n-tap"..The ONLY way you could have a problem is if YOU installed it incorrectly.....think about it.....you dont change ANY of the strengths of the mainshaft in ANY way....Both Rick Norman and I have them, Ricks is a 231 case, and mine is a 242....neither of us have had ANY problems with them!!!! As a matter of fact, we were just talking today about how guilty we felt, that we both have had the same rear driveshaft for almost 2 years with no problems.....I guess we just dont wheel as hard as the other people...... The AA kit is a good kit, and a good price......consider either kit.....you wont be unhappy....

I twisted off the output shaft right at the spedo gear in all the other kits the replacement shaft is way more beefy right there.
There were alot of things coming together that caused it but I dont think it would have happend with the kit I have now. Plus I like being able to use the front shaft for the rear in a bind.

front shaft for the rear??? In a cherokee???? Uh, how does that happen??? Just carry spares......EVERYONE who rock crawles SHOULD have AT LEAST a spare driveshaft and front axles....

At one point in time, Joe West had a 231 t-case with a RE hack and tap SYE on it. He ran it for some period of time....I would guess a year or so. As far as I know, it never gave him any problems.

He sold the t-case to me and I installed Tera 4:1 and 2LO kits in it and ran that against 35" tires for 2 1/2 years. I sold the RE hack and tap after removing it during last years suspension change. It is now living in some Jeeper's t-case out east with the same stock output shaft that was in my t-case.

yeah....those little RE SYEs do pretty good....for $80, it is pretty hard to beat them.

Is there a differance in the 231 & 242 SYE kits? I have the 242 and am confused, I only see kits for the 231! and I agree with Flexy on the hack and tap kit, You've got to be retarded to muck it up and sure, then it sucks and your kindof screwed. Note to self dont drink beers and smoke PCP while Installing my SYE when I get it! LOL

here is the problem, the hack and cut is going to cost me 425 all together including the drive shaft and labor or i can get the AA kit and drive shaft for 475 and have a wrench party with mike baney and get it put in with no charge, what would you all do??

MY front and rear drive shaft are exactly same length that is how I use them.

If someone decides to use the hack and tap I have a drive shaft that I dont need anymore made for a cherokee with 8 inches of lift.

I see the problem too. Hacking and cutting is counter productive and repetitive.
