Mike,
Just wanted to let you know that you are doing an excellent job with the

this "club". Keep up the good work. It certainly does not go without
notice. (Damned if that didn't sound like one of my managers talking to
me. ;-) I certainly did not mean it that way. Just wanted to say thanks

Not that I'm aware of! Sounds like the manual's attempt at being EXTRA
careful??? Tires are not to be removed and axles are staying in place,
so I'm not sure why it says that. Sounds like a mistake to me. Only
tricky part is getting the new seal in without removing the crank
shaft. Pep Boys and the like sell a little tool (its really just a
piece of wire that you can push/pull with) that helps to pull it around
the crank while it is still in place. I've never actually tried it, but
it looked pretty slick. In the past, I have just been able to snake it
around by carefully tapping and pushing. Good luck....................

You really need a relay. They're pretty cheap and easy to install. KC's come
w/ their own relay, but if you don't have one handy, you can pick one up for
a couple of bucks (under $10?) at Radio Shack.

There are allot of differences in equipment between full-size, CJ's, YJand TJ

or the Coves and there were enough folks sign up, you could form groups
according to equipment and teach TREAD LIGHTLY, care and equipment, and driving

two day affair. Sort of a learn your equipment jamboree. I am a CJ5 person and I

Yes, good math, if a switch can handle 20 amps. I am sure you can find
wire that will handle 20 amps. So if you look you will also find

If someone needs some help or just wants to share info one night/day

Thats an idea, I am not aware of any standard automotive 40 amp fuses to
protect the system though. The guage of the wire coming thru the fire wall
to the switch would be huge in comparison to the 14 guage wire that could
be used to switch the relays. If your heater is not operating like it did
when it was new, don't worry as the heat radiating off of the wires alone
will keep you toasty on the coldest of winter mornings.
My suggestion is to use one relay per two lights. This will have a current
draw of 16.67 amps. Use a 20 amp fuse for each set of lights and two
switches.

The wire size to run a 40amp circuit would need to be 8ga. That is big. I
would do as Dave suggests below. Use one switch to trigger two relays. That
way you can get away with 14-12Ga wire depending on the type of wire.
I have the same set up on my tow vehicle. I have one switch with two relays
running four daylighters.

Some thoughts:
For the clinic part, it is definitely my intention to have a variety
of "obstacles" for participants to practice on. I'd like to have 4 or
5 "stations" each with a different type of obstacle.
1. Shorter Hills – short steep hills. Participants would practice
going up and down.
2. Off-Camber – Short sections of off camber trail – Participants
would practice driving both left and right leans.
3. Longer Sand/Loose granite hills. Participants would practice
going up, backing down (as in many cases with these types of hills,
it takes more than one attempt) and driving down (once they've made
it to the top)
4. Rocks – short sections of rocks for participants to practice on.
Participants would practice tire placement and learn other traction
techniques. Both solid rock and rolling rock should be on hand. Also
a short ledge, like the one on the Crown King trail, would be nice.
5. Twisty spots – short sections that will flex the suspension.
Participants would practice tire placement and learn other traction
techniques.
Of course no participant would be forced or coerced into doing
anything they are not comfortable with. They would be encouraged to
tread lightly, use common sense, and take their safety and the safety
of others around them into consideration.
It also looks like we've narrowed it down to a few areas.
1. East of the Haul Road, near the old P4W Ranch - knowing this area
pretty well, it has some of everything and would lend itself well to
both a clinic and a trail run, as well as a sufficient amount of
camping space, should this turn into a 2 day event, and it sounds
like it will. I already have several areas in mind for the different
stations; I'm just trying to remember if these areas are east or west
of the haul road. There isn't a lot of debris for a clean up, but
I'm sure that if we looked we could find some.
2. Coves - I haven't been there, but I'm told that we could find
areas like those described above. And there is an incredible amount
of trash for a clean-up; from what I've heard, we could spend the
entire weekend cleaning up and still not get it all. I haven't heard
how camping space.
3. South End of the White Tank Mnts - I know this area pretty well as
well, it also has some of everything and plenty of trash to be picked
up. I'm not sure about camping in the area though.
4. Sycamore Creek area – I've been to this area once or twice, it
also appears to have everything we are looking for, as well as a
sufficient amount of trash for a clean up.
I suggest that a few small groups get together and check out these
areas, specifically looking for places we could have stations set up
as well as a camping, and a potential trail to run. After each site
has been visited, the groups could get together to discuss the pros
and cons of each area. I'd be willing to check out both the P4W and
the South End of the White Tank Mts.
Saturday we could have the clinics, and on Sunday, a few runs. The
potluck seemed to work well for the Christmas Party, so a Saturday
Evening Potluck sounds good. As the clinics probably will not take
all day, a few 4x4 games could be arranged, as well as some games for
the kids.
Since the 13th is Mothers' Day, I'd suggest doing this the weekend
after Tax Day, April 19th and 20th.
Thoughts?

There are allot of differences in equipment between full-size, CJ's, YJand TJ

according to equipment and teach TREAD LIGHTLY, care and equipment, and driving

Yes, good math, if a switch can handle 20 amps. I am sure you can find

I did my rear main with a screw driver. Be real careful not to score the
main bearing. All you need is enough room to get the pan out of the way.

Though this is not relevant to my 99 TJ, I thought I'd pass this info along for those in the group that are experiencing this problem. Check out the following link for info.

Subject: Re: [TR] - Beginner's Run
Thoughts?
