Has anyone taken the trail before? I'm leading the
trip saturday and am just curious how the trail is and
if there is any difficulty finding it?

get people off on the right foot :o)

Yes...I've done it several times. I posted a write up on the club web site.
It's generally a class 3...maybe a 3+ in one or 2 spots.

Everybody-

I second the idea of the clean up. I also like the idea of the coves,
becuase it does have a wide range of terrain and it is ALWAYS in need
of clean up.

If we waited a couple weeks and did the coves I could bring my
trailer and we could load up a bunch of stuff. I would also be
willing to lead a run or whatever.

I'm going to replace the rear main seal and oil pan
gasket on an 86 cj7 with the 258. Does the jeep need
to be on jack stands to do the rear main seal? My
book says to put it on jack stands but I don't have
any right now. Do I need to get some?

Thanks,

Sounds like a good idea. Personally, I hate the Coves. Ugliest place I've
ever been wheelin.... maybe it was all the trash I picked up that turned my
stomach.

White Tanks has some good stuff and P4W is one of my favorite areas.... but
a lot of it has closed last summer.

yes....but a poor location to actually conduct training, since the trails
are so heavily traveled....you would for ever be in the way of someone else
trying to get down the trail. I think Mike was thinking of an area where
you could actually practice doing an obstacle many times until one was
confident, and then moving on to the next one. (At least that was my
understanding of the plan)

Jake,

Kathy and I went through Turkey Creek last year with Mike Chatfield leading
the run.

I am assuming that you are talking about a TJ. At the time we went through
Turkey Creek, our TJ was stock except for 1 3/4" spacer lift, 30x9.50
factory Wranglers, and limited slip.

You should be able to make it through with no problems, but you may bang the
gas tank in a couple of places, seems that hitting the tank is real common
for TJ's.

I love the idea. I'm VERY new to Jeepin and would love the chance to watch
others and get pointers, etc. And I REALLY love the idea of a clean-up as
well. I have not been able to make any of the ones so far.
One request. Can it be on a Sunday? Saturdays are impossible for me,
and I really want to get into the clean up side, as well as the trail
running.

Count me in, and put my vote for the sycamore area.. Only bad part is that there is alot of people there, se we might be in the way, although if there was alot of us picking up, perhaps we could inspire all the other people to pick up too, or atleast pick up their stuff..

I'm up for the Coves or Sycamore and definitely a clean-up.

Does anyone that is coming have bolt cutters? We might need them to cut the
fencing we are using.

Is it OK to run 4 KC's (100 watts each) all to one on/off switch,
without using a relay?

I'll be happy to help out with a beginners day, but all of my experience is
with herding full-size (over size?) rigs into places where they really don't
fit. There are many people in the club more qualified to instruct "little"
Jeep owners in the fine points of 'wheeling, but if there are enough folks
out there in large vehicles I'll be happy to spend time with them.

I would think that either the Coves or the south end of the White Tanks
would be good candidates for areas. Both offer several types of
challenges......it kinda depends on what people want. The White Tanks area
is a bit more suited to rock crawling, but the Coves has more hill climbs.
Pam and I are kinda partial to the Coves though. :-)

Combining it with a clean up run is a fantastic idea. Count me in, teaching
or not.

Len

Awhile back (good God must have been two years ago) I mentioned a
maintenence run. It never panned out do to heat and lack of a place. We
could probably combine a Maintanance run with a beginers run. I think there
are possible alot of people that beat there Jeeps but need a begineers
course on maintaining their Jeep. I have tools!

In a word-no. If you check the current draw on each light you will
probably find that you should use two relays, one for each pair. It is
not really that much more work and everything will stay cool and not
burn up wiring. You still only need one switch. Off Road has small size
relays that are cheep and easy to install. I used them for my lights and
air pump.
