Incidently, whetherl you have a YJ, TJ, CJ, or whatever would make a big
difference in this question, I believe.
For the record, my YJ lost it's rear trackbar and also the swaybar in
front. The front trackbar, however, is held on with a tine pin, removed
and tied up for trails.

I think it should be reworded to say "Does your YJ...." since you can't remove them on a coil setup unless you do some serious fab work. Otherwise your poll will not be an accurate reflection of your question about whether or not to remove your trackbar on a YJ.

Hey on this trac bar poll. Seeing that this fantastic yahoo groups won't
recognize my egroups ID or my New Yahoo ID I will make my vote here.
I think you also have to take into account the type of lift you have also.
SOA or SUA. I have taken both track bars off and don't run a sway bar
either. I have had it this way for 1 year know. I think I don't have any
adverse effects because My Pro Comp springs are so stiff(which sucks) that
My axels don't move much nor does my body roll seem to be that bad. I must
say the removal of the trac bars helped the ride tremendously.

Which are we talking about the steering stabilizer or the trac bar. The
stabilizer (I thought) was attached to the axle and then to the Tie rod bar.
Where as the Trac bar is attached to the Axle then to the frame to keep the
axle from moving laterally. I have never tried taking the steering
stabilizer off. But both front and rear trac bars are off.

Well. I decent steering stabilizer made a HUGE difference on my Suburban
(6000#, leaf springs all around, solid axles, 6" springs, 35" tires.)
When I switched from the cheesy leaky stock one to a RS5000, driving
over bumps on the highway was a much less harrowing experience. I didn't
notice any difference when I upgraded the one one the YJ, though, so uh.

A customer dropped it off last year and decided not to

want it, either pick it up at my work (Guadelupe and
Kyrene) or I will take it home and you can pick it up
there (Pecos and McQueen).
Packard Bell
Legend 14CDT
486
CD-ROM
sound, video, modem
It does need and external battery because the on-board
battery is dead. I replaced the battery before the
customer left it, and it did work. External CMOS
battery will run you about 10 bucks.
Don't ask me any more about it then what I have
listed. It is a little old, and slow, but it is free.
Could be good for a kids computer.
Thanks.

Hi folks: It's about time to do the SOA on my YJ. I'm pretty clear
where I'm going, but need some thoughts on doing a shackle reversal.
The sticking point, as I see it, is the fact that I'm used massaged
Wrangler springs as the basis for my spring over.
There seems to be a debate as to whether reversed shackles are a help
or hindrance, specifically when used in an SOA application with stock
springs.
Looking for comments either way on this one. This is a daily driver
Jeep that loves to hit the rock trails on the weekends. I do drive to
the trailhead, not a trailer queen.

Excellent point. The same applies to track bars. I don't notice any
difference with my track bars removed under NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.
But I haven't been in a situation where I needed to perform any sort
of high speed manuever. I suspect my Jeep would lay over much easier
in such a situation with my track bars removed.

This is from Parts Mike:
"Why I don't like the shackle reversal. I have done this on a couple of
my own Jeeps (I owned a 1956 CJ6 that was stock shackle reversal, 55-56
CJ5 & 6 had this). Shackle reversal on paper looks great as it should
help the "ride" without affecting handling (negatively) and not hurt
offroad capabilities. Well in the real world it does 2 things that are
positive 1. The ride is slightly better 2. The approach angle is the
greatest positive attribute as you can mount the leading eye of the
spring against the frame. On the negative side, nosedive when stopping,
the front axle must be moved forward, therefore you will have to move
the steering box as the draglink and tierod cross, on steep downgrades
the frontend will "dig in" as the shackle moves rearward, when trying to
get over objects the reverse shackle "gives" therefore reducing the
ability of the tire to have maximum pressure on the object you are
trying to get over, with a SOA the twisting motion of the axle will
cause the shackle to move forward and bend the spring from the center of
the axle to the shackle, this is really reduces spring life and causes
the Jeep to "hop" which means you are not getting anywhere and will
probably break something. These are my opinions based on actual
happenings. Mike"
Having said that, I have seen a lot of shackle reversals work very well,
even on SOA vehicles. Just some info for you.

Subject: A New Jeep For Smitty
Ok,
I am new to the Jeep Club here.
I am looking to buy a "new" Jeep, I don't want a showroom Jeep though.
So I am looign for a good Used Jeep.
Any advice on Wether eI should go old School witha CJ or should I go
with a YJ or newer?
I had an old 83 CJ7 when I was in Highschool and right after I got
out. But, I had to sell it. Now I am looking to get back to the way I
was meant to be, In a Jeep..
Any Thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Smitty

I assume this question is for YJ's only....since track bars are absolutely
essential on coil sprung TJ's, XJ's (front), and ZJ's.

Welcome Smitty!!!
This is the age old question....
Which jeep to get. Can you see yourself spending
25,000 on a new jeep and making mods to it and
possibly rolling it? I did. It is also my daily
driver, so I wanted A/C, stereo and reliability. I am
planning on an old CJ resto project in a few years, so
its all up to the driver!
Good luck on your decision, and whatever desicion you
make, this group will support it and give you ANY help
or answer any questions you have on it!

I didn't
notice any difference when I upgraded the one one the YJ, though, so uh.

suggestion...put it back on for your safety. The thing may not seem to make a
difference, but if you get a flat, it could mean the difference between an
inconveniance and a disaster! It shouldn't be in the way, and won't make
steering more difficult, but it could save your can!!

A customer dropped it off last year and decided not to

Kyrene) or I will take it home and you can pick it up
there (Pecos and McQueen).
Packard Bell
Legend 14CDT

CD-ROM
sound, video, modem
It does need and external battery because the on-board
battery is dead. I replaced the battery before the
customer left it, and it did work. External CMOS
battery will run you about 10 bucks.
Don't ask me any more about it then what I have
listed. It is a little old, and slow, but it is free.
Could be good for a kids computer.
Thanks.

Subject: Shackle reversal discussion. Opinions wanted.
