The area we were in, we filled my longbed truck twice. It did not even leave a dent. I can not believe the mess the shooters have left.:( Oh well it was great to get out and get some sun.:)

Rick, I was just about to post and saw your thread. Nice to meet a bunch of you.

Simon, too bad about not feeling like you made a dent. I know how daunting the mess can be and I felt the same way at 8:00 am when we started.

When we were done (my friend and I pooped out around 11:30 am after maybe 10 trash bags and two truck loads of crap -- getting old and fat sucks :D ) It took lots of people to make this hill this clean, but it got done!

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2688&stc=1&d=1130018115

Every piece of trash picked up makjes a difference even if it doesn't look like it at first.

Good job everyone.

Hope the folks that stayed to do some wheeling had fun too.

Wow looks great. Wish our area looked like that. I must have picked up 4000 shotgun shells. I have broken my back twice and have had 2 operations on it. I only have so many bendovers (WATCH IT) each day. Im glad with what we got done.:) A great way to spend the day with the family:)

Everybody kicked butt out there and did a great job! And as usual I met a lot of nice folks!:D It's amazing what people throw out there to shoot.:( It just makes you sick! It seemed like propane tanks were the hot item to shoot up. We must of pulled a couple dozen from that one area alone.

Here's some before and after pics.

Great work to everyone that showed up to help, the BLM and Game and Fish were pretty impressed with the turnout from the OHV crowd. I was at the same area as the pictures taken above and will have a video up and running soon. I felt pretty good leaving that area.
The BLM and the other agencies are looking into ways to solve the shooter problem. I am happy to see the Good Gun club sponsor the event but it would be nice to see them have more shooters show up to help out. The only way they will ever control it is peer preasure. On a trail run if you throw out a can or bottle or for that matter drip fluid how much crap do you get? That is the kind of peer preasure the shooters need.

It was great to meet some of the people from the forum and put some faces with names. I couldn't believe how much trash and shotgun shells/shell casings there were. We were scooping them up by the shovel full and it was just never ending. The area I was in was just a mess. We didn't get everything, but it looked 90% better than we we showed up. Hey Simon, I saw a bunch of people with 4Wheeler Supply shirts on. I felt left out, how do I get one of those?

I will sure feel sore tomorrow. :(

I was glad to see new faces at the cleanup....and in some clases, faces that I'd not seen at a cleanup but had shared a trail with in the past. Your help was GREATLY appreciated....and I'll pass along a big THANK YOU for giving up part of your weekend towards the cleanup.

I lasted until a little after 11:00 and then called it quits. My back was screaming and Syra picked up something in her paw. :(

When I stopped to get a cold bottle of water at the check in table, I overheard one of the folks being interviewed in front of a video camera. He stated they had 121 folks sign in at the table and he believed another 20 to 30 were helping that did not sign up. He also mentioned that they were very pleased with the OHV turn out. I was too. ;)

My wife and I were there and, with the help of a few of the GGF guys, we filled over 20 bags! All of the Jeeps took off to clean while we were signing in. One of these days I will be able to put some faces to all of these names! Oh well, we had a ball anyway and very happy we could help out.
I did finally get to meet Nena. Hopefully, I can head up to Sedona soon and learn to wheel my Jeep with the big dogs!

We had a good time. Our group filled up my truck 3 times and we hauled out the car that was at the end of Lower Raw Deal. That was a chore. I lost a couple of miles off of my tires tread, but it was worth it. As with everyone else, I was amazed by the types of junk that people will shoot up and the amount of shotgun shells that we had in such a small area. I was telling my son that this why when we are out hunting that we pick up our shells and whatever else we come across. Hope fully Geno was able to get some pictures.

What a great showing! None of the standing around and socializing for this crowd (until later!)--the minute I arrived, we were shipped off to work. I think we made a huge improvement, but it saddens me to think that in a few months, it will be just as bad, again. :( There needs to be some example-making enforcement out there.

I have to say, I was APPALLED at the amount of trash there. In this day and age, are there still people who think it is okay to litter?

So who had the most bizarre find of the day? I observed that violent crimes against computers are on the rise...:D

I saw some familiar faces, and was able to meet a few new ones--people I am happy to finally have a face for a name! Larry, Nick, Rick & Vanda, Steve, Ron--nice to have met all of you--hope I didn't forget anyone. Mr. Beer--hi, goodby--nice to see you for a moment. Stu--sorry I missed seeing you. Simon--sorry I missed meeting you.

I split at noon--had to get back to Sedona for a photo shoot. Did anyone wheel after lunch? No, don't tell me, I am jealous already--those trails were CALLING!

I chauffered Pat K., one of the organizers, and there were a couple of cameras following him, so we should get some good PR out of this.

Great before and after pics, guys! This was the only picture I managed with my dead camera batteries: White Jeep Only Parking:
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2696&stc=1&d=1130079116
And speaking of dead batteries, never underestimate the power of Murphy. When I was loading up the Jeep to head down to TM, I saw my jumper cables sitting on the garage floor, and said "Nah, I won't need those today--there will be 1000 people there with jumper cables." Wouldn't you know, not 30 minutes into the cleanup, someone needed a jumpstart, and NOT ONE of the 50+ vehicles parked nearby had cables...including yours truly

And just for clarification: Yes, any of you are welcome to stop by the store or call anytime you are in Sedona! No formalities necessary...

Happy trails!

Hey Stu,

I worked the area you and I have teamed up for in the past. The organizers were steering people to other areas in case the quarry was running their trucks. But I knew better. That area has been closed to shooting (because the quarry is sort of in the background) so it wasn't as bad as it has been in the past. But it was still trashed. I spent the entire time from 8:00 - 12:00 in that area. For most of the time, I was the only one working that area and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. After a while a couple of people (including a BLM person) came over and worked on the casings at the top of the hill. Then a husband and wife and their young son came over and the husband helped clean up the rest of the area with me. In the end, we were able to address the entire area.

This was my first clean-up activity with this group and like others have said it was real good to see the jeep community and other OHV folks out there.
I worked the same area as the photos with Stu, Huck, Kent, John and others. That place was a mess for sure and is a whole lot nicer now. I gotta say though....around 11:30 I was one whupped dude, back hurting, feet hurting....but the heart felt good seeing what we accomplished.
And what was really nice...jeeps, ATV and dirt bikers all working together with The Good Gun Foundation. It's this kind of diversity working TOGETHER that will help us all succeed in keeping recreation open on public lands!
Great job eevryone!
Ken

Roger,

Sorry to have missed working with you this year. We'll get together for the next one. ;) Glad to hear that area got some attention. I think some of the traffic it use to see pushed over to several of the other abused sites. :(

Nena....next time! :)

The only thing I was disappointed abpit was the start time. A LOT of us were ready to go at 7:00 AM (which was what the post on the old web-site said). By 7:30, I was wishing I had brought some trash bags and could get started, regardless of there being any adult supervision present or not. :D We were burning good daylight and COOL temps at that point in time. By 8:00, when the signup table was taking names, lots of folks were looking to get-r-done!

Great job guys. I had to opt-out of this one. We're moving in two weeks and really needed the weekend to pack. I would have preferred to have been helping though. Also my Jeep brakes are hooked up yet after the axle swap.

Thanks for the pics and video!

KEEP EM ALL TOGETHER

Here are a few pics from the Table Mesa Clean-up.

Thanks to every-one who showed up. We turned the TM area around, AGAIN..
I know we over-filled at least 2 of the roll-off dumpters, I had not seen the third.

It was great working with all you, I was also happy to see Employee's/Owners from the local business's take part.

Its was a pleasure working with Nick and the Performance Offroad Crew (32st & Cactus location), and Rick Beer from Discount Tire (16ave & Bell rd. location).

Thanks again to every-one, the people who put this together, and the people involved.....

There is a quip for this but it is probably X-rated.
