does anyone know easy way to find out what homes selling for in nabour hood:D

If you are preparing to sell and have a realtor, they can run "comps" which are comparable prices for recent home sales in a given location/neighborhood. Home sales are recorded on the county books, so they are publicly available, but you'd be hard pressed to dig up the information yourself. Realtors have access to their own private databases with this information in it.

There are also a multitude of real estate company sites where you can search listings in your area, but most require you to register/login so they can send you lots of junk and try and get your business. For example, my wife uses www.ziprealty.com to check prices in our neighborhood.

You can also look at the court house at all real estate transactions in the county, they are public record and you can see just what your neighbors paid or sold for. If you do not want to drive there you can do it online for $20 at any of the real property search websites.

All this can be seen online at the county recorders site.. I can't remember what exactly the site addy is but google is your friend... :D

Here is how I did it: I went to google and typed in " what is my home worth", and got many hits. The one I used was a yahoo site,
http://realestate.yahoo.com/re/homevalues/
This is free and gives immediate feedback. It only works if a house in your neighborhood has sold in the last 6 months.
